Oracle Announces General Availability of Oracle Communications Network Integrity 7.1

2 February, 2012 - 13:56
Oracle Press Release Oracle Announces General Availability of Oracle Communications Network Integrity 7.1New Release Helps Network Operators Reduce Network and Operational Costs through Improved Data Accuracy Redwood Shores, Calif. – February 2, 2012News Facts Oracle today announced the general availability of Oracle Communications Network Integrity 7.1 to enable network operators to synchronize and maintain accurate, up to date information in their network inventory systems. Increased network data accuracy is a prerequisite for network operators to significantly reduce network capital and operational costs, as well as improve service fulfillment and assurance process efficiency. Release 7.1 provides several new capabilities, including: Reference Integrations: Pre-integrated support for Oracle Communications MetaSolv Solution – as well as pre-existing integration with Oracle Communications Unified Inventory Management. These integrations reduce implementation time and cost, and enable existing Oracle Communications MetaSolv Solution customers to more easily deploy Oracle Communications Network Integrity 7.1 to improve the accuracy of their network data. Assimilation: New circuit and service assimilation and discrepancy detection capabilities for channelized technologies – such as optical – to enable network operators to identify and recover stranded network assets and capacity as well as reduce leased capacity costs. Rigorous Support for Industry Protocol Standards: This release supports the Telcordia-standard Transaction Language 1 (TL1) interface to enable discovery across a broad set of network elements. It also supports the TMF-814 interface standard, which was used to formally certify the Oracle application interoperability with Huawei’s U2000 Network Management System, demonstrating how supporting such standards can reduce the risk, time and cost of delivering integrated solutions. Oracle Communications Network Integrity is a modular component within Oracle’s holistic solution for Network Resource Management, which enables network operators to plan, build, optimize and manage their communications networks. It may be deployed in an integrated manner with Oracle or third-party inventory platforms. Supporting Quotes “Inaccurate network inventory data is a long-standing and growing problem for network operators resulting in elevated costs and inefficient operations that often impact end customers. Network operators are increasingly seeking solutions such as Oracle Communications Network Integrity which, together with improved internal processes, can materially reduce network related costs and deliver significant operational efficiencies,” said Mark Mortensen, principal analyst, Analysys Mason. “As demand for network capacity continues to escalate, network operators must be able to efficiently discover the assets and capacity in their network, determine current utilization and enable more efficient asset utilization. In providing additional productized integration, assimilation capabilities and enhanced discovery protocol support, Oracle Communications Network Integrity 7.1 helps network operators more easily achieve these goals by leveraging their existing network inventory investments and avoiding a costly, lengthy and high risk network inventory transformation program,” said Liam Maxwell, vice president, products, Oracle Communications.Supporting Resources Oracle Communications Oracle Communications Network Integrity Oracle Communications Unified Inventory Management Oracle Communications MetaSolv Solution Oracle Communications Network Resource Management Oracle Communications on YouTube Oracle Communications on Diigo Oracle Communications on Facebook Oracle Communications on Twitter Oracle Communications on LinkedInAbout Oracle Communications

Vanderbilt University Selects Oracle’s PeopleSoft Customer Relationship Management to Overhaul its Admissions System and Enhance Strategic Assessments for Campus Programs

31 January, 2012 - 14:33
Oracle Press Release Vanderbilt University Selects Oracle’s PeopleSoft Customer Relationship Management to Overhaul its Admissions System and Enhance Strategic Assessments for Campus ProgramsLeading Research Institution Will Integrate its CRM Solution with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Warehouse to Improve Enrollment Management Redwood Shores, Calif. – January 31, 2011News Facts Oracle today announced that Vanderbilt University, an internationally recognized research university located in Nashville, Tenn. with more than 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students, has selected Oracle’s PeopleSoft Customer Relationship Management (CRM) to transform its outdated legacy admissions system and meet CRM needs for other campus programs, such as student life, advising and scholarship recruitment. Vanderbilt’s legacy undergraduate admissions system, Recruitment Plus, is being discontinued. In addition, the graduate and professional schools use varying homegrown and vendor solutions, which creates inefficiencies and prevents collaboration. The administration wanted to replace its admissions systems with a CRM solution that could strategically analyze Vanderbilt’s admissions data to accurately assess all programs offered by the institution. PeopleSoft Customer Relationship Management will enable the institution to integrate six admissions systems into one comprehensive solution. This will help Vanderbilt enhance strategic reporting, facilitate more efficient information transfer between departments and colleges and reduce complexity associated with student records integration. By integrating PeopleSoft CRM with its current PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Warehouse and PeopleSoft Performance Management Warehouse installations, Vanderbilt will deploy an enterprise-wide recruiting, admissions and reporting solution to improve enrollment management, student selectivity, administrative and student relationships, predictive analysis, strategic assessments and student retention. Vanderbilt recently began the implementation and expects to complete its new undergraduate admissions system in August 2012, with the graduate and professional schools to follow in August 2013. Nine of Vanderbilt’s colleges and schools, totaling approximately 300 business users, will utilize the new solution. Oracle Gold Partner Exeter Group Inc. is assisting with the implementation.Supporting Quotes “Administering six separate admissions systems has created operational inefficiencies, prevented inter-campus collaboration and increased operating costs. By consolidating our admissions systems with Oracle’s PeopleSoft Customer Relationship Management, and integrating it with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Warehouse and PeopleSoft Performance Management Warehouse, we can provide administrators with a comprehensive view of the institution’s admissions and scholarship procedures to accurately assess the strength of our programs and make informed business decisions,” said Douglas L. Christiansen, vice provost for enrollment and dean of admissions, Vanderbilt University. “As competition for top students grows, higher education institutions are looking for ways to operate more efficiently and improve student retention. By selecting Oracle’s PeopleSoft CRM, Vanderbilt will facilitate greater communication between its colleges, schools and departments to enhance student selection and retention,” said Steve Koporec, vice president, applications, Oracle Higher Education. State of Maryland Government Agencies Improve Inter-Agency Collaboration through a Shared Services Business Intelligence Environment

31 January, 2012 - 14:03
Oracle Press Release State of Maryland Government Agencies Improve Inter-Agency Collaboration through a Shared Services Business Intelligence EnvironmentBusiness Intelligence Helps Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Solve, Reduce and Prevent Crime; Maryland Department of Education Plans to Improve Decision Making and Enhance Teaching and Learning Redwood Shores, Calif. – January 31, 2012News Facts Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS), working with the Governor's Office of Crime Control & Prevention (GOCCP), deployed Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition to streamline access to real-time criminal justice data to help solve, reduce and prevent crime. DPSCS – which operates 27 correctional facilities and 45 parole and probation supervision offices – working with GOCCP – a one-stop shop for resources to improve public safety in Maryland – integrated siloed systems containing information for its Divisions of Corrections, Division of Parole and State Police Gun Registry and Sex Offender Registry with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition and Oracle Service-Oriented Architecture to create a business intelligence solution providing a single view of criminal background data. Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies and prosecutors use the resulting centralized Web-based application – called the "Law Enforcement Dashboard" – drawing from more than 100 data sources across 22 agencies – to access accurate, timely information that helps them make fast, well-informed decisions in the fight against violent crime. With one search, they can instantly see an offender’s criminal history, photographs, open warrants, gun permits, motor vehicle status and more. At Oracle OpenWorld 2011, DPSCS won an Oracle Fusion Middleware Innovation Award for the Business Intelligence and Enterprise Performance Management category. These awards honor customers for their cutting-edge solutions using Oracle Fusion Middleware. To improve inter-agency collaboration, DPSCS deployed Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition in a shared services environment for other government agencies, including the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), which aims to improve public education, library services and rehabilitation services. Through an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) "Race to the Top" program grant, MSDE is moving forward with developing and implementing a statewide data system to manage and analyze individual student data using the business intelligence solution in addition to Oracle Database 11g, Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle Identity Management, Oracle WebLogic , Oracle BPEL Process Manager, Oracle Spatial, Oracle WebCenter Suite and Oracle Portal. The system will help MSDE improve visibility into organizational performance while enhancing operational efficiency, teacher effectiveness and student achievement. With year one of the three-year project now complete, MSDE will use Oracle technology and applications to deliver 35 Web-based, personalized dashboards for 66,000 teachers, 6,000 administrators and 800,000 students and their parents. These dashboards will help MSDE move beyond static, paper-based or PDF reports to enable teachers, principals, parents and other education stakeholders to fully engage in their own data analysis and make more informed decisions about everything from student skill assessments to resource planning.Supporting Quotes "Before the Law Enforcement Dashboard, individual users had separate user names and passwords per database, putting the burden on the user to seek out relevant data. The Oracle system turns this paradigm upside down by establishing a customer-centric solution. We have enhanced our data value by making information accessible and establishing a sustainable infrastructure and process for boundless information sharing," said Kristen Mahoney, executive director, State Governor's Office of Crime Control & Prevention, Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. "With a shared services environment, we are able to collaborate with other government agencies, ultimately helping us reinvest in the State of Maryland's technology infrastructure. Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition will enable us to deliver a student-centered learning environment and help us build a sustainable state-wide data system that will benefit our students now and into the future," said Rob London, PK12/P20 director of Solutions Architecture, Maryland State Department of Education. “Business intelligence is about getting the right information, to the right decision makers, at the right time. For most organizations, this is a high hurdle, as data resides in many systems and in different formats. Therefore data must be aggregated and standardized into a unified model and transformed into information that is relevant to decision makers. Through its shared services environment, the State of Maryland is doing just that by delivering complete, relevant and timely business content to decision-makers in easy-to-understand dashboards, alerts and reports,” said Mark Johnson, senior vice president, Oracle Public Sector.Supporting Resources Oracle Public Sector Oracle Public Sector on Facebook Oracle Public Sector on DiigoAbout Oracle

31 January, 2012 - 13:00
Oracle Press Release Leading Analyst Firm Positions Oracle in Leaders Quadrant for Web Content Management Redwood Shores, Calif. – Jan. 31, 2012News Facts Gartner, Inc. has named Oracle a Leader in its latest “Magic Quadrant for Web Content Management.” (1) Gartner’s Magic Quadrants position vendors within a particular quadrant based on their completeness of vision and their ability to execute on that vision. According to Gartner, “The WCM market continues to grow rapidly, and new technologies continue to emerge. This dynamism has occurred because enterprises today expect WCM to do much more than simply manage the content of their websites. Enterprises want their websites to optimize interactions with visitors, whether that means selling more, engaging more or informing more.” Gartner continued, “Leaders should drive market transformation. Leaders have the highest combined scores for Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision. They are doing well and are prepared for the future with a clear vision. They have strong channel partners, a presence in multiple regions, consistent financial performance, broad platform support and good customer support. In addition, they dominate in one or more technologies or vertical markets. Leaders are aware of the ecosystem into which their own offerings need to fit. Leaders can: demonstrate enterprise deployments; offer integration with other business applications and content repositories; provide a vertical-process or horizontal-solution focus.” Oracle WebCenter enables organizations to use the online channel to deliver an engaging and effective customer experience. The solution empowers business users to manage and deliver high-scale dynamic websites with content targeting and optimization, user-generated content, end-user personalization, and integrated management and delivery of the mobile Web. Court Rejects HP’s Attempt to Keep the Truth About Itanium’s Death From Customers

31 January, 2012 - 02:23
Oracle Press Release Court Rejects HP’s Attempt to Keep the Truth About Itanium’s Death From CustomersUnsealed Court Filings Highlight Hewlett Packard’s “Milk” the Customer Business Strategy REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., January 30, 2012

Oracle issued the following statement in response to today's ruling in the ongoing litigation with HP relating to the Intel® Itanium® platform:

"Oracle is delighted that the Superior Court of the State of California, Santa Clara County, has rejected HP’s attempt to hide the truth about Itanium’s certain end of life from its customers, partners and own employees. We look forward to seeing all of the facts made public that demonstrate how HP has known for years that Itanium is end of life.”

In HP’s own words:

HP did not want to reveal that the Itanium road map is “more an illusion than of technical significance.” Its purpose was to “extend the Itanium roadmap…to create market perception of long term viability.” "HP-UX is on a death march due to inevitable Itanium trajectory." That HP knew  that customers are prone to abandon a server technology as soon as its end of life becomes “visible” “An informed customer is not going to invest in a hardware/operating system solution with a life expectancy of 4 years.” HP's internal documents show that “the Itanium situation is one of our most closely guarded secrets.” “The regions are unaware of the situation with Itanium and the impending end of life.” That HP was trying to “"drive the customer outrage angle" against Oracle instead of telling customers the truth.” The last Itanium chip, Kittson plus, is released in a throttled down version and then a full version to create “illusion” of longer roadmap.About Oracle

University of Puget Sound Selects Oracle’s PeopleSoft Applications to Facilitate Information Exchange and Enhance Strategic Reporting Capabilities

30 January, 2012 - 14:53
Oracle Press Release University of Puget Sound Selects Oracle’s PeopleSoft Applications to Facilitate Information Exchange and Enhance Strategic Reporting CapabilitiesNational Liberal Arts College Launches “Optimize Puget Sound” to Streamline Operations, Standardize Business Processes and Best Meet Student, Faculty and Staff Needs Redwood Shores, Calif. – January 30, 2012News Facts Oracle today announced that the University of Puget Sound, a national undergraduate liberal arts college in Tacoma, Washington with 2,600 students, has selected Oracle’s PeopleSoft applications and Oracle Hyperion Public Sector Budgeting and Planning running on Oracle Database to overhaul its legacy student, financial and human resources systems. The new systems will help facilitate more efficient inter-campus information sharing and enhance analytics capabilities for administrators. Puget Sound’s legacy student administration system was developed in-house and was nearing end-of-life. Its maintenance costs were escalating and it lacked meaningful reporting, forecasting and analytics capabilities. The institution needed new student, financial and human resources solutions to meet dynamic constituent and student needs, facilitate complete data transfers between departments and ensure efficient and cost effective maintenance. After an exhaustive RFP process, Puget Sound selected Oracle’s PeopleSoft Financials, PeopleSoft Human Resources, PeopleSoft Student Administration and Oracle Hyperion Public Sector Budgeting and Planning, all running on Oracle Database. The institution selected Oracle’s PeopleSoft applications due to their flexibility, ability to exchange data with external systems, reporting and budgeting tools and Oracle’s longstanding support for the higher education community. By selecting Oracle applications, Puget Sound is looking to standardize business processes and adopt best practices. Specifically, the institution will leverage more robust reporting and analytics capabilities to assist in strategic planning and decision-making and compete more effectively with peer institutions in delivering new features that students and staff expect, such as sharing information via mobile applications. Puget Sound recently began the implementation and will complete its project, known as “Optimize Puget Sound,” in December 2013. Once complete, the new system will provide access to approximately 3,700 users, including students, faculty and staff. The institution is working with Oracle Gold Partner MIS, Inc. on the implementation.Supporting Quotes “By moving from a piecemeal system consisting of legacy homegrown software and acquired ERP modules to an integrated Oracle software environment, the University of Puget Sound will realize a tremendous opportunity to transform and streamline its operating processes. For this reason, we’ve named our implementation project ‘Optimize Puget Sound.’ We expect our new system to enable us to efficiently and effectively focus on what is best for our students and the university as a whole,” said Sherry Mondou, vice president for finance and administration, University of Puget Sound. “Higher education institutions are continuing to replace their home-grown, legacy student, financial and human resources environments with sophisticated and integrated applications that facilitate greater information exchange and analytics capabilities. Oracle is proud to work with the University of Puget Sound in developing a single system that will enable the institution to operate more efficiently and provide its students and staff with exciting resources to improve the educational experience,” said Steve Koporec, vice president, applications, Oracle Higher Education. Oracle Press Release Oracle Named a Leader in Master Data Management of Customer Data Solutions by Leading Analyst Firm Redwood Shores, Calif. – January 30, 2012News Facts Gartner, Inc. has named Oracle as a Leader in its latest “Magic Quadrant for Master Data Management of Customer Data Solutions.” (1) Gartner’s Magic Quadrant reports position vendors within a particular quadrant based on their completeness of vision and ability to execute. According to Gartner, “Leaders have strong results and delivery capabilities, and will continue to have them. They typically possess a large, satisfied customer base (relative to the size of the market) and enjoy high visibility in the market. The size and financial strength of the Leaders enable them to remain viable in a challenging economy. Leaders have mature offerings and track records of successful deployments, even in the most-challenging environments, across all geographies and in many vertical industries. Leaders have the strategic vision to address evolving client requirements; however, they're not always the best choice.” According to Gartner, “Master Data Management (MDM) is a technology-enabled discipline in which business and IT work together to ensure the uniformity, accuracy, stewardship, semantic consistency and accountability of the enterprise's official, shared master data assets. Master data is the consistent and uniform set of identifiers and extended attributes that describes the core entities of the enterprise, such as customers, prospects, citizens, suppliers, sites, hierarchies, and chart of accounts.” Gartner continues, “The ability to create, maintain and leverage a single, trusted, shareable version of customer master data is increasingly seen as an essential requirement in commercial and noncommercial organizations to support business processes and business decision making.” The Oracle Master Data Management Suite of products, including Oracle Product Hub, Oracle Customer Hub, Oracle Supplier Hub, Oracle Hyperion DRM, Oracle Site Hub and Oracle Enterprise Data Quality. It is the most complete, best-in-class, MDM offering on the market, and helps customers consolidate and maintain complete, accurate, and authoritative master data across the entire enterprise. Oracle Customer Hub enables organizations to centralize all customer information from heterogeneous systems, creating a single view of customer information that can be leveraged and shared across all functional departments in the enterprise, as well as externally with trading partners. Supporting Quote “Creating a single view of the customer is very important as it helps organizations increase revenues and profitability, drive efficiencies and mitigate risks,” said Melissa Boxer, Vice president, Customer Hub Product Strategy, Oracle. “We believe Oracle’s position in the Leaders Quadrant in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Master Data Management of Customer Data Solutions demonstrates our commitment to delivering the industry’s most complete MDM suite. (1) Oracle also announced today that Oracle is placed in the Leaders Quadrant of the 2011 “Magic Quadrant for User Administration/Provisioning.” (2) According to Gartner, leaders in Identity and Access Governance (IAG) are “composed of vendors that provide products with a good functional match to client requirements for establishing a governance system for access. These vendors have been successful in building an installed base and revenue stream within the IAG market, and have a relatively high viability rating (because of IAG revenue). Leaders also show evidence of superior vision and execution for anticipated requirements, as they relate to technology, methodology or means of delivery. Leaders typically have significant market share, strong revenue growth, and demonstrated early customer satisfaction with IAG capabilities and/or related service and support.” Gartner describes leaders in user administration/provisioning as “high-momentum vendors (based on sales, world presence and mind share growth), and they have evident track records in user provisioning across most, if not all, market segments.
