Oracle has been named the leading embedded database management systems (DBMS) vendor for the third consecutive year.
Oracle, the world's market-leading producer of RDBMS software, is also the leader in the embedded RDBMS market. The company's embedded DBMS revenue grew at 3.6% from 2008 to 2009, over twice the overall market rate. Oracle offers Oracle Database under an embedded license through OEMs and VARs. The embedded license, unlike the full license, permits the end user to operate the database with the product in which it is embedded but not to create new databases. Such restrictions are typical of embedded DBMS vendors, though some pure-plays permit only database runtime software to be distributed by their partners, so license restrictions are not necessary.
