The carefully developed courses will be delivered by an experienced and accredited Oracle BI training partner. The emphasis is very much on using ‘real world’ experience, which is vital to supplement the technical aspects of the training and there will also be an element of sales/pre-sales content during the 8 week intensive programme. The Oracle UK BI Channel team is supporting this initiative and they will be presenting a session on the BI Sales part of the curriculum.
OBI Graduate Training - How it works
The model is very simple and has been successfully employed for another software technology provider for many years. The key to its success is to provide the best possible quality of training in the form of a well planned transfer of knowledge and incorporate all the required elements of a comprehensive BI course. After a rigorous selection process suitable graduates, in addition to the relevant OBI training, will also receive general induction and personal development training.

The graduates are employees of Base 3 Systems and therefore all the recruitment, employment and training costs (ie the 8 week course) are paid for by Base 3. In return, organisations make a commitment to take on the trained graduates for a minimum of a year at a very attractive daily rate. During this period Base 3 continue to pay their salary and employment costs. However, the graduates can be deployed by organisations on whatever task is required of them.
At the end of the year you can either extend the contract, offer them a full-time job with no other fees/costs or send them back if they are no longer needed. This removes the risk to organisations that might not be able to afford the huge up-front costs of recruiting, training and paying for new graduates. (It is estimated that the costs in the first two months of recruitment, employment and all the elements of the 8 week training course would be between £35k - £40k, so this really is a cost effective and low risk way of engaging newly qualified and skilled graduates.)
Oracle Specialised
This OBI Graduate Training programme is being supported by Oracle UK who see it as an excellent way to assist Oracle Partners to gain and retain their Specialised status, initially in OBI and over time in other areas of specialisation. The ability for partners to take on these graduates and immediately fulfil their specialised criteria, without having to take their experienced top flight Oracle Professionals out of the field is very attractive. These graduates can also be placed with Oracle Partners to work with their clients alongside seasoned Oracle Professionals and naturally, their development will really benefit once they are working alongside experienced colleagues. Oracle Partners contemplating OBI as a new addition to their product/services portfolio will see this as an ideal way to start that transition and gain their Specialisation.
Business need for OBI Trained Graduates
This scheme is not limited to Oracle Partners and any organisation looking to supplement their existing Oracle BI development and support teams, or planning new Oracle BI projects will appreciate this is an ideal and cost effective way to integrate top quality, well trained and highly motivated new staff.
Take up has already been very good and with the first course due to commence in Mid-February, 50% of the first graduate intake have already been allocated to Oracle Partners. Further courses are planned in other Oracle technology and it is also envisaged to eventually roll out this model to a European market.
