EU membership has brought many benefits to the 12 Eastern and Central European countries that have joined since 2004. The resulting political stability, better governance, fairer taxation and increased trade opportunities have all helped the new EU entrants to grow and prosper.
One major benefit of joining the EU has been access to funding: there is €180bn available for the 12 new entrants between 2007 and 2013. In this webcast interview with the EIU, Oracle SVP Alfonso Di Ianni talks about what EE-CIS governments can learn from Ireland and Spain in terms of successfully investing funds in R&D. He also makes some recommendations for where the funds can most fruitfully be spent in order to boost jobs, growth, inward investment and innovation to ensure long-term economic prosperity.
