Oracle Launches ‘Innovate’ Program to Help Young Aspiring Romanian IT Entrepreneurs
BUCHAREST, ROMANIA. 9-JULY-2008 Oracle Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) today announced the launch of its new Oracle ‘Innovate’ Program at a ceremony held in central Bucharest and honoured by the attendance of His Excellency, Mr. Traian Basescu, President of Romania. Romania was selected by Oracle as the first country to benefit from the new program. Young aspiring IT entrepreneurs in Romania are being urged to enrol for the Oracle Innovate Program, which can help them to turn their ideas for innovative IT businesses into successful commercial ventures.Designed by Oracle, the Oracle Innovate Program will be rolled out in collaboration with leading universities, venture capital firms and other partners across the CEE region, and provides aspiring IT graduate and postgraduate entrepreneurs with free business and technology advice and an opportunity to submit their business plan to the Innovate Greenhouse for further development and funding. The Program has been launched partly in response to the need for CEE countries to innovate in order to help stimulate growth and prosperity in the face of heightened global competition. A new, Oracle-commissioned survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit has found that Romania in particular has the opportunity to develop its approach to innovation, ranking 12th of the CEE countries studied. The Innovate Greenhouse Committee will assess business plans from technology students and IT entrepreneurs, select the most promising ones for further development and funding, and oversee the development of each selected venture. Entrepreneurs whose business ideas are selected could benefit from the following resources to help them commercialise their business faster and more successfully:
• Preliminary funding from a local venture capital organisation
• Named business, technology and marketing advisers from Innovate Program partners
• Free training on Oracle technology products
• Access to marketing resources
• Free technical support
• A year’s free membership of the Oracle PartnerNetwork
The Oracle Innovate Program will launch in other CEE countries after the start of the new academic year in September 2008. Countries nominated for the new term include Czech Republic and Turkey.
Supporting Quotes
• Sergio Giacoletto, Executive Vice President, Oracle Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Nearly every facet of our lives today – finance, health, communications, retail, transport, social, leisure – relies on technology and this provides an enormous potential marketplace for aspiring technology start-ups. The Innovate Program brings together an ideal combination for success – youth, technology, and entrepreneurship. By creating their own businesses, IT graduates have a ready-made opportunity to contribute to the economy, create employment and build a better future for themselves and for their country.”
• Alfonso Di Ianni, Senior Vice President, Oracle Eastern Europe and CIS Region. "At Oracle we have long been committed to helping small businesses to start up, flourish and grow. Today we are deepening that commitment by launching the Innovate Program to identify and foster exciting new technology business ideas being generated by budding Romanian entrepreneurs. Young people are a largely untapped natural resource who can put their ideas, energy and knowledge into building tomorrow’s successful companies.”
• Sorin Mîndrutescu, Country Leader, Oracle România. “Oracle has invested substantially in Romania’s future with its Oracle education initiatives, and we see the results as Romanian students win the top places in the Oracle Academy global datamodelling contests year after year. Romania has a great opportunity to accelerate and increase its innovation ranking with today’s new program, and I would urge all young Romanian IT graduates to apply and take the first steps to building an exciting future.”
