Fujitsu Services announces 1,200 jobs to go in the UK
Fujitsu Services, the IT unit of electronics giant Fujitsu, has today announced its intention to cut up to 1,200 jobs because of "lower than anticipated revenues."
Fujitsu said in a statement, that "Action is necessary to ensure that the company remains competitive in the current difficult global economic climate" and that "it was in a solid position for future growth when the economy starts to recover."
The company said that they had taken measures now "to keep its cost base down and avoid job losses." The company is also planning a "reduction in the number of contractors and temporary workers, a retraining programme and tight control of recruitment." Controls have also been applied to operational and capital expenditure.
Fujitsu Services says it will consult with employees and unions to on how to achieve the reduction in numbers.
Fujitsu currently employs 12,500 people in the UK and generates annual revenue of £2bn. It previously implemented a company-wide pay freeze.
The redundancies are likely to be completed by the end of 2009.
